MORWENDON HOUSE - LOCAL SPORTS ACTIVITIES
Morwendon
House is ideally situated to explore the wonderful coastline of Cardigan
Bay and the Lleyn Peninsula. For a scenic day why not take a coastal train
ride? Walk down the path to the side of the house down to the ‘Halt’ where
the train will stop for you and will then transport you up the coastline
and along the beautiful Lleyn Peninsula or southwards down to the
beautiful unspoilt character of the seaside village of Aberdovey.
There are also many Golf Courses within easy travel distance including
Harlech's Royal St David's (10 miles away) which has been described by
professionals as one of the worlds toughest par 69 - Special Green Fee
rates have been agreed with both Royal St. David's & Aberdovey Golf Clubs
for golfers booking through Morwendon House. You will find Morwendon House
to be an ideal base for a 2/3 day golfing break being handily situated
halfway between Aberdovey and Royal St. David's Golf Clubs. The
picturesque and friendly Dolgellau Golf Club is also now available having
recently been taken over by Richard Stockdale.
Steam Railway enthusiasts are particularly well catered for in this area.
There are approximately 13 steam railway sites within an hours drive of
Morwendon House . These include: Bala Lake Railway,
Cambrian Railway Society, Corris Railway, Fairbourne Railway, Ffestiniog
Railway, Glyn Valley Tramway Museum, Llanberis Lake Railway, Llangollen
Railway, Snowdon Mountain
Railway, Talyllyn Railway, Vale of Rheidol,
Welsh Highland Railway and Welshpool & Llanfair Railway. If you

Walkers and ramblers are also well catered for in this area. Snowdonia is
a short drive away and we are close to the Rhinogs and Cader Idris. Also
the walks along the Mawddach estuary can be breathtakingly beautiful.
There are excellent opportunities to study birdlife, many species of duck
and wading birds frequent the estuary and the old railway above the
wetlands and saltings is an ideal viewpoint. At Penmaenpool is the RSPB
bird observatory. According to John Ruskin, there was only one finer walk
in the world than that from Barmouth to Dolgellau and that was the walk
from Dolgellau to Barmouth
